US President Donald Trump is to have his first face-to-face encounter with Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, at a G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.
They have both said they want to repair ties damaged by the crises in Syria and Ukraine, as well as Russia's alleged meddling in the US election.
Clashes with G20 protesters have left 76 police officers injured. Mass rallies are expected during the day.
World leaders face their own divisions over climate change and trade.
Trump-Putin rendezvous - what are the main issues?
The two leaders are due to meet in the afternoon for an hour, Russian media say, though other reports suggest it could be about 30 minutes.
Trump will attend the G-20 summit in Hamburg, where he is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
