Camaradas, amigos, señoras y señores:

¡Saludos a todos! El tiempo vuela y nunca para. Enseguida vamos a darle la bienvenida al año 2019. Desde Beijing, ¡permítanme manifestar mis felicitaciones por el Año Nuevo a todos!

Pasamos un año 2018 pleno y con firmeza. Este año, con diversos riesgos y desafíos vencidos, hemos promovido un desarrollo económico de alta calidad, acelerado la sustitución de las energías motrices tradicionales por nuevas, y mantenido la economía funcionando en un intervalo razonable. Ha avanzado viento en popa la lucha por el cielo azul, el agua clara y la tierra limpia. Se ha acelerado el desarrollo de los diversos programas para el bienestar del pueblo, y se ha mejorado constantemente el nivel de vida de la población. Se han ejecutado con pasos firmes estrategias a nivel nacional, como el desarrollo sinérgico de Beijing, Tianjin y Hebei, el desarrollo de la Franja Económica del río Yangtsé, así como la construcción de la Gran Área de la Bahía de Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao. Al inspeccionar diferentes lugares, he visto con satisfacción las orillas verdes del río Yangtsé, las ondas de arroz de Wanmudadihao en Jiansanjiang, la vitalidad de la zona económica especial de Qianhai en Shenzhen, el vigor del parque de alta tecnología de Zhangjiang en Shanghai, y la grandeza del Puente Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao. Todos estos éxitos han sido porque los pueblos de las diversas etnias del país se han puesto manos a la obra con determinación, y los luchadores en la nueva era se han esforzado con sudor.

Este año, han mostrado su fuerza los productos hechos en China, creados en China y construidos en China, cambiando continuamente la fisonomía del país. Se ha lanzado exitosamente la sonda Chang´e 4, se han realizado las pruebas marítimas del segundo portaaviones de China, se ha realizado el vuelo inaugural sobre agua del primer hidroavión de tamaño grande de producción nacional. El sistema de navegación Beidou ha dado un paso más para completar sus redes globales. Ahora, ¡me gustaría mostrar especial respeto por todos los científicos, ingenieros, y artesanos de este gran país, así como por todos los que han colaborado y participado!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to meet with my colleagues again. I wish to begin by extending, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, a warm welcome to you all. Welcome to the BRICS Xiamen Summit. With the focus on the theme of the summit: “Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future”, I look forward to working with you to take stock of BRICS cooperation, map out a blueprint for its future development and set sail on a new journey of cooperation.

BRICS cooperation has traversed a glorious journey of one decade. Though separated by mountains and oceans, our five countries have been closely bound by a shared commitment to win-win cooperation.

As an ancient Chinese saying goes, “A partnership forged with the right approach defies geographical distance; it is thicker than glue and stronger than metal and stone.” We owe the rapid development of BRICS cooperation to our adoption of a right approach. Guided by this approach, we have respected and supported each other in following the path of development suited to our respective national conditions; we have pushed forward economic, political and people-to-people cooperation in an open, inclusive and win-win spirit; and we have worked in unison with other emerging market and developing countries to uphold international justice and equity and foster a sound external environment.

Xi Jinping, China’s president, on Sept. 28 made his first address to the United Nations General Assembly.

He made some big announcements on peacekeeping; reminded the world of China’s sacrifice in what the Communist Party has taken to calling the “World Anti-Fascist War;” promised that China is a responsible global power and emphasized its belief in the UN; and dropped the obligatory Chinese adage.

Mr. President, Dear Colleagues,

Seventy years ago, the earlier generation of mankind fought heroically and secured the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, closing a dark page in the annals of human history. That victory was hard won.

Seventy years ago, the earlier generation of mankind, with vision and foresight, established the United Nations. This universal and most representative and authoritative international organization has carried mankind’s hope for a new future and ushered in a new era of cooperation. It was a pioneering initiative never undertaken before.

Seventy years ago, the earlier generation of mankind pooled together their wisdom and adopted the Charter of the United Nations, laying the cornerstone of the contemporary international order, and establishing the fundamental principles of contemporary international relations. This was an achievement of profound impact.
