Russian President Vladimir Putin eulogized the two
Russian nurses Nadezhda Durachenko and Galina Mikhailova, who were killed on
duty in Syria, during a speech at an awards ceremony for those working in the
field of human rights and charity in Moscow, Thursday.
SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "Neither medicines nor medical equipment should come under any kind of restriction, because as a result people are deprived of basic medical assistance, especially in armed conflicts - when civilians and very often children suffer - to my huge regret. I am convinced that it is important to make an appropriate decision at the international level to avoid such a situation."
SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "I thank Elizaveta Petrovna [Glinka, social and political activist] for mentioning our servicewomen who gave their lives in Syria trying to help people. Yes, they are servicewomen, but they carried out a humanitarian mission; they helped people who suffer, who have not seen medical care for many years. But nevertheless, the hospital was attacked deliberately. By the way, the voice of human rights defenders almost did not make a sound in that regard. And it is very good that the representative of such important field spoke about it in public here in Moscow, in the Kremlin."
