China
heading toward a collision with everyone
[ Note: This
foolishness continues to go on where China’s claims to the entire South China
Sea has zero international validity as most of the area is way outside China’s
border. It can build all the atoll islands it wants but it will not prevail
over all the other countries in the regions.
This
Chinese stubbornness has rolled the red carpet out with the support of these
other countries to protect them from the big bull China, the biggest public
relations disaster I have seen China inflict upon itself.
All of
the countries want to lay claim to the energy resources that are close to their
shorelines and there is a long history of international maritime law to settle
disputes. China cannot be allowed to reinvent the rules to fit its desires
without allowing everyone else to do so, the result of which would have to be
naval combat which the world has not seen since the Falkland wars.
The
obvious solution would involve all the neighboring countries being assured of a
fair piece of the pie based on a combination of maritime case law on economic
zone calculation and the relative populations involved. China has an unsaid
policy of its one billion plus population entitles it to the whole South China
Sea.
At the
end of the day that claim will be met by all of the other nations naval forces
in opposition and China will be the big loser. This is a terrible backdrop to
have for the new development bank starting off and the birthing of the New Silk
Road. Chins should reconsider its dead end policy and fix it before the damage
gets worse… Jim W. Dean ]

Beijing
is accusing the United States of violating Chinese law after an American
warship sailed near a disputed island in the South China Sea. The Foreign
Ministry said the Chinese side near the island took relevant measures including
monitoring and admonishments. The USS Curtis Wilbur sailed within 12 nautical
miles of Triton Island.
The US
Defense Department said no Chinese military vessels were in the vicinity of the
destroyer. According to the Pentagon, the move is aimed at challenging efforts
to restrict freedom of navigation. China and its neighbors have been locked in
territorial disputes in the South China Sea. China has repeatedly told the US
to stay out of the row.
